She rode an animal bred for the part. It was huge and spirited, a glossy roan that looked like an artist's conception of equine perfection. She was very stylish, in red and gold brocade, white scarves, gold and silver jewelry, a few black accents. Like a rich lady one might see in the streets of Opal. Her hair was darker than midnight, and hung long from beneath an elegant white and lace tricorner hat trailing white ostrich plumes. A net of pearls kept it constrained.

Great. Searching for red and gold brocade patterns is a bit rough. I don't wanna make one of my own.

At least her riding companions will be easier!

The Lady's companions were more in keeping with her image. Of medium height, all swathed in black, faces concealed behind black gauze, mounted upon black horses harnessed and saddled in black leather, they resembled the popular picture of the Taken. One bore a long black spear tipped with blackened steel, the other a big silver horn. One rode to either flank, trailing by a rigid yard.

Not terribly fond of Wayne Reynold's interpretation of that - kinda does what it wants with the description. That went on the cover of the D20 adaptation of The Black Company's setting, which supposedly is quite brutal and a sword to the gut doesn't get a saving throw. Relatively low magic, and those who have it can be pretty extreme in power if you don't know their true name.

Get ye The Books of the North, very well done, though much like opening the random page of an annal you do get dumped into the situation and slowly have to learn, just like the Company itself. If you like gray areas, then this'll give you a lot. I can't get into the Books of the South Sadly. I might skip to A Cruel Wind since it is about the Dread Empire.
